Aurelia has been receiving her medicine via IV since last week, but yesterday they put in her chemo port. She was put to sleep for this surgery and she did really well, but she is sore and tired today. She is receiving the anti-nausea medicine right now which may help her avoid vomiting and such when the chemo meds get stronger. She will also have another blood transfusion today to give her a little boost.
The first few days Aurelia had a fair amount of energy and we did lots of art projects, played board games, read books, played cards, called lots of family and friends, and made things with Lego. Her energy levels have definitely changed and the past few days she has been listening to her audio books, listening to me read aloud and watching movies. Of course, she is not too tired to remind the nurses of what medicine she is meant to have and when (she listens and remembers EVERYTHING the doctors say).
Our family (and my mom who arrived last week from California) have moved to a flat in the city centre of Barcelona for the summer. This will make things much easier for all of us and Eston is appreciating the change of scenery. It was difficult for him to be at home without Aurelia so now he can explore the city with my mom.
We appreciate the messages of support from everyone and all of our friends and family who have done so much to help from near and far.
Aurelia has requested we not post hospital photos. She said it will make people "too emotional." She did give me permission to post this photo of her. Our friend Brooke lives in Australia and knows how much Aurelia loves Elton John, so she sent her these awesome Elton John sunglasses. Aurelia loves them!

We’re all praying and rooting for your family! Thank you for keeping us informed as we’re all worried about your sweet girl.

ReplyDeleteI just want to say you look so super cool in your Elton John glasses. I am also going through chemo for cancer. Your port is in the same place as mine. I love that you're doing so well. I found doing everything you're doing; smiling, building Lego bricks, art work, music, and reading really helps to get better and feel better during and after treatments. I also like to sing out of key, dance, and make picture books. I'm a little further in my treatment than you. I get my port out in 2 weeks and it's easier. It's not another surgery but a quick doctor appointment. My surgeon says it's really quick. I thought you might want to know that. Another thing that helps me is letting the people that are the closest to me, like my family, how I am feeling and letting them share things I wanted. This way I only had to worry about them sharing. This allowed me to concentrate on doing things that made me happy. I also like to hear and read how much people care and are thinking about me. I'm so proud of how well you're doing. I'm sending prayers, happy vibes, and love. I wish you the best. Your mom is one of the strongest people I know and the two of you together will do well in this fight. I hope to meet you some day and I know the perfect gift to bring! Cheynna, let me know if I can do anything for you or or family! My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
